Torrey Vap

Command Sergeant Major (Ret) Torrey M. Vap was born in Kearney, Nebraska on March 8, 1972. He grew up in the small farming community of Red Cloud, Nebraska and graduated high school in 1990. In March 1991, he enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman and went to One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. His military education includes Basic Combat Training, Infantry School, Warrior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders course, Department of the Army First Sergeants Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (resident Class 58), Battle Staff course, Department of the Army Command Sergeants Major Course, Airborne School, and Air Assault School. While assigned to the United States Army Recruiting Command (USAREC), he has attended the Basic Recruiter Course, Station Commanders Course, the USAREC First Sergeant, and Command Sergeants Major Courses.

Previous to joining JTilley, Inc., he served for over 23 years in the United States Army. He held various Infantry positions from Rifleman to Squad Leader in the 3rd US Infantry DIV (The Old Guard) from 1991 to 1997. He began his recruiting career in April 1997 when he was assigned to Baltimore Recruiting Battalion. He served as a detailed Recruiter, Assistant Center Commander, and Center Commander in the Woodbridge, Virginia Recruiting Station. He converted to Cadre Recruiter in 1999 and served as a Center Commander in Baltimore and Mid Atlantic Battalions. He served as a First Sergeant for two Companies in the Pittsburgh Battalion. He is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, resident class 58. He served as the Command Sergeant Major of the Tampa Recruiting Battalion from 2008 to 2012, and the Dallas Recruiting Battalion from 2012 to 2014.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal (7th award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, and The Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He has earned the Expert Infantryman Badge; Airborne and Air Assault wings, the basic Recruiter badge, the Gold Recruiter Badge, the Recruiter Ring, the Glen E. Morrell Award for excellence in recruiting, and the US Army Recruiting Excellence Medallion.

He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and holds a Master of Business Administration focused in Conflict and Negotiation Management, both from Trident University International (TUI) in Cypress, California.

He is married to the former Erika Lynne Oetjen-Gerdes and they have two children; son Taylor and daughter Jordan. They reside in Riverview, FL.
